When to book a maternity photographer?
Maternity photos are typically taken between 28-34 weeks, nice and round but not so far along you are uncomfortable.
(You can always do earlier if you planning to use them for an announcement!)
When to book a newborn photographer?
Don't believe everything you hear! Of course earlier is better to make sure you got a spot with your favorite photography, but sometimes there are very good reason for delaying hiring your photographer.
Newborn photography sessions typically are done within the first 2-3 weeks of life. But I have photographed babies all the way up to 6 months old in my newborn style. Sometimes older babies are more awake and just need to be held more. We can be flexible!
This little NICU warrior was 6 months old during his outdoor newborn session! He still allowed me to swaddle him, he was just very strong.
Reach out and book your newborn photographer in your 2nd trimester to make sure to get on their calendar. Your date will be tentative and can be adjusted according to baby's arrival.
I put your due date on my calendar and we adjust as needed, just shoot me a text when your bundle has arrived and we will finalize a date. This always me to hold space for your family in my schedule.
Finding outfits for the whole family does not have to be a difficult process. I've been doing this for 15 years and was a big fan of What not to Wear!
After listening to your preferences I'll pull an entire look together for your family and You can choose to purchase directly from the link or pull similar items from your own closet. Shoes included!
What do we need to do to get ready?
Hair and make up for mom is always included. Your stylist will arrive at your house about 30 minutes before I do. All they need is a table, a clean face, and day-old hair.
After having my own newborn. I realized how hard it is to hold a newborn and curl my hair. It's just not possible. Birth is quite a life event, being pampered is exactly what every new mom needs.
I noticed that every time I loved someone's make up in a picture it was the skin and lashes! Adding lashes really makes an image POP!
Location is always home. Packing up and traveling with a newborn is one of the hardest mind-numbing challenges I've ever experienced.
Just take a rest and let me come to you. Plus I enjoy the ability to incorporate the personal touches in your home to make your pictures uniquely yours.
I typically just need about 10 square feet of clear space, I bring my own lighting so anywhere is fine. I've photographed newborns in hallways, back porches, dining rooms, bedrooms, and even a gorgeous bathroom!
I also like to use a fairly cleared out bedroom for family pictures. (This can be your bed or a guest bed room.) Beds make for snuggly fun family pictures.
I like to start with sibling photos. Often older siblings are toddlers. They have a limited attention span for well ...everything. It's also best to get them in before they need lunch and a nap. If it's just not working out, we can try again after they've called down and had a snack. (Helps all of us.)
Next on to family photos! Family photos are my favorite. I want to see the new family all together! It's also easier for the toddler or older kids when they can sit with mom and dad and be held.
If your family is local or visiting, include them!
Shoot me an email to get the conversation started!
