“The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.”
I never actually wrote down the address for this newborn session. I drove 175 miles to get there and new exactly which driveway to pull into. I had walked to this house a hundred times before. Babysitting jobs, a ride to a swim meet, New Year's Eve parties (they bought tons of fireworks). They taught me that with enough firepower, you can trick a street light into thinking it's daytime and it will shut off for a few minutes. I've carried this gem of knowledge with me to every party I've been to since.
I grew up on the same street as the Ellenburgs. Katie was one of the first kids I ever babysat. I thought she was the cutest little kid. We once thought her dog ate my watch. (He didn't.) I think every Saturday morning, Katie and her crew were dragging me out of bed to play games. I secretly didn't mind. I never grew up. I was happy to play. Now I'm excited to watch her have her own little kid that will undoubtedly drag her out of bed every Saturday and many other mornings. I hope she secretly doesn't mind either.
I wanted to incorporate something from each of the men in Asher's life that never got a chance to meet him. All 3 were huge Carolina Gamecock fans, so that was an easy start. But when Dana pulled out Michael's Gamecock shirt, I knew I wanted a picture of Asher wrapped in his uncle's arms. For Jon we had a replica of his wooden cross that he wore. And for Asher's Granddad, Doug, we rolled up his AT&T hat until it was small enough for a newborn head. And of course, I always loved the fact that they had a real phone booth in their house because of their dad.
I didn't notice until editing but we even caught a picture with Asher's Uncle Michael looking over the new family.
My favorite! Time for baby to just stretch and show of their budding personality.
